Why the two systems disagree
The international system groups digits in threes: thousand, million, billion. The Indian system groups the first three, then in twos: thousand, lakh, crore. The same number is written 1,000,000 internationally and 10,00,000 in India.

Where this bites in marketing
Ad platforms and analytics tools report in plain digits, and most default to international grouping. Clients, founders and finance teams talk in lakh and crore. A monthly report that says 4,750,000 when everyone in the room thinks in 47.5 lakh creates a pause in every meeting, and occasionally a real mistake.
Two practical habits: write the unit in report headings rather than assuming, and when a budget is discussed verbally, repeat it back in digits before anyone acts on it. “Fifty lakh” and “five million” sound similar in a noisy call and differ by a factor of ten.

Is it lakh or lac?+
Both appear in Indian English. Lakh is the more standard spelling; lac is common in older commercial usage. This tool accepts either.
How many zeros in a crore?+
Seven — 1,00,00,000, or ten million.
Why does Indian grouping use two digits after the first three?+
It follows the lakh and crore units themselves, each of which is a hundred times the last rather than a thousand.
Can I paste a number with rupee signs and commas?+
Yes. Currency symbols, commas and spaces are stripped before parsing.
