Reach and frequency calculator

Budget buys impressions. Impressions divided by people is frequency, and frequency is what decides whether a campaign is invisible, effective, or irritating.

Set from your location. The maths is the same in any currency — only the labels change.

You never reach everyone. Fifty to seventy is realistic.

Why frequency is worth planning rather than observing

Most people meet frequency after the fact, as a column that explains why performance fell. It is more useful as a planning number: given this budget and this audience, how often will each person see the ad, and is that the amount of exposure the message needs?

The ranges that matter

Frequency is not a dial you set. It is what happens when a budget meets an audience, which means the two levers you actually have are spend and audience size.

Why you never reach the whole audience

Platform audience estimates are optimistic. Not everyone is active in your window, not everyone is reachable in your placements, and the auction will not win every impression. Assuming you can reach fifty to seventy percent of a stated audience in a month is realistic; assuming a hundred percent will make every plan look better than it turns out.

What to do at each end

Too low: narrow the targeting, cut placements, or run longer. Too high: widen the audience first, because it is free and it also extends the life of your creative. Cutting spend works too, and is the right answer only when the extra reach genuinely is not there.

Once frequency is climbing, the next question is production. The creative volume calculator turns that into a number of concepts a month.

Questions

Is a high frequency always bad?+

No. For a short launch window, or a high-consideration purchase, deliberately high frequency over a few days can work. It becomes a problem when it is sustained and unintentional.

Should I set a frequency cap?+

For reach and awareness campaigns, often yes. For conversion campaigns, capping tends to fight the bidding and the better lever is audience size.

What penetration should I assume?+

Fifty to seventy percent of a stated audience over a month is a realistic planning figure. Check it afterwards against the reach your campaign actually achieved and adjust for next time.

Does frequency include all placements?+

In the platform’s reporting, yes — it is across wherever your ad served. Someone seeing it on Facebook and Instagram counts twice.

The paragraph below the iframe is the part that matters: an iframe's contents are served from our domain, so a link inside it is not a link from your page. The paragraph is. The small script just resizes the frame to fit your column — drop it if you prefer, the fixed height still works.
