Education marketing in India: admissions, not enquiries

Education is the category where lead volume is easiest to generate and hardest to convert. Counsellor capacity is usually the real constraint.

Media Puppies · · Updated

Education lead generation produces enquiries easily. A discount and a deadline will fill a form at almost any cost per lead you like. Converting those enquiries into admissions is a different business, and it's where most budgets are wasted.

Start with counsellor capacity, not budget

This is the calculation most institutes skip. If your team can meaningfully handle 120 enquiries a week, generating 400 doesn't produce more admissions — it produces 280 people who were ignored and now tell others you never called back.

Work backwards: capacity per week, target admissions, realistic conversion rate. That gives you the lead volume worth buying, and therefore the budget.

Buying more enquiries than you can call is paying to damage your own reputation.

Parent or student? Decide, don't blend

They want different things and respond to different messages.

  • Parents respond to outcomes, safety, faculty credentials, placement records and fee clarity.
  • Students respond to peer proof, campus life, flexibility and what the course feels like day to day.

An ad trying to do both usually persuades neither. Separate campaigns, separate creative, separate landing pages.

Seasonality is brutal here

Admission cycles compress demand into short windows, and everyone bids in the same weeks. Costs rise sharply and then collapse.

The move is to build audiences before the window — content, video views, site visitors — so that during peak you're retargeting a warm pool instead of buying cold traffic at auction prices. Same logic as festive season planning, with even sharper peaks.

Creative that works

  • Named results with context. Not "our students topped" — a student, a score, a year, a course.
  • The teacher teaching. Two minutes of an actual class does more than any facility montage.
  • Fee structure, stated. Hiding fees produces enquiries that end the moment the number is mentioned.
  • Answer the real objection: "is this worth it for my child" — with evidence, not adjectives.

In education lead generation, follow-up is the whole game

Education enquiries are comparison-shopping aggressively and the decision is often made within days.

  1. Instant WhatsApp with fees, schedule and the next counselling slot.
  2. Human call within minutes during admission season — non-negotiable.
  3. A sequence that sends something useful: a syllabus, a sample class, a placement report. Structure here.
  4. A clean close for the undecided, rather than endless chasing.

What to measure

  • Cost per qualified enquiry (right course, right city, right stage).
  • Cost per counselling session attended.
  • Cost per admission. The only number that pays the bills.
  • Contact rate within one hour, tracked daily during season.

Before committing a budget, run it through the PPC forecast calculator and see what it actually buys.

Questions people ask

How much budget does education lead generation need?

Start from counsellor capacity rather than from budget. Enquiries that nobody calls are a cost with no revenue behind them, so the right spend is whatever produces the number of conversations your team can actually have that week.

Should I target parents or students?

Decide, do not blend. They respond to different creative, they ask different questions and they are reachable at different times. A campaign speaking to both speaks clearly to neither.

How seasonal is education marketing?

Severely. Admission cycles concentrate demand into short windows where costs rise sharply and everyone bids at once. Budget held back for those weeks earns far more than the same money spread evenly across the year.

What should I measure?

Cost per admission, with cost per counselled enquiry as the leading indicator. Cost per lead is the easiest number to improve and the one least connected to a filled seat.
