B2B lead generation in India: fewer leads, bigger numbers

B2B breaks every habit consumer lead-gen teaches. The biggest one: volume stops being a useful signal entirely.

Media Puppies · · Updated

B2B lead generation in India looks like consumer lead generation and behaves nothing like it. A consumer account producing 200 leads a month is doing something; a B2B account producing 200 is usually producing 190 students, job seekers and competitors.

What changes

  • Cycles are months, not days. Judging a campaign in three weeks tells you nothing.
  • The buyer isn't one person. Someone researches, someone approves, someone signs.
  • Volume is noise. Five right conversations beat eighty wrong ones, and the account can't tell the difference without your help.

B2B lead generation in India: the channel reality

Google Search is usually first. Intent is explicit, volume is low, and that's fine. Bid on problem-aware terms, not just your category.

LinkedIn has the best targeting for B2B and the highest cost per click in the market. It earns its place when one customer is worth several lakh — below that the maths rarely works.

Meta is underrated for Indian B2B, especially SME-facing. Cheap reach, and decision-makers at smaller businesses are on it constantly. It needs harder qualification in the ad.

In B2B, the campaign that generates fewer leads is usually the one working.

Qualify brutally

Put company size, budget or role in the form. Accept the drop in volume. Then feed qualified status back to the platform so it learns what a real prospect looks like — with this little data, that feedback matters more than in any consumer account.

What to measure

  1. Cost per sales-qualified lead — marketing-qualified is a vanity stage.
  2. Pipeline value created, not lead count.
  3. Time from enquiry to first meeting.
  4. Close rate by source, once you have enough to be meaningful.

Expect to wait two quarters before the numbers mean much. Anyone promising faster clarity in B2B is guessing.

Measure pipeline, not leads

The single change that makes B2B paid media work is moving the success metric down the funnel. Cost per lead is actively misleading when nine in ten leads can never buy.

StageWhat it tells youUseful after
LeadThe ad and form workWeek 1
Qualified leadTargeting is rightWeek 2–3
Meeting heldThe offer is credibleMonth 1–2
Proposal sentReal pipeline existsMonth 2–3
ClosedThe channel paysMonth 3–9

Feed at least the "qualified" stage back into the ad platforms as a conversion event. Otherwise the algorithm optimises toward whoever fills forms most readily, which in Indian B2B means students and job seekers.

Filtering in the ad, not after it

You have more control than you think over who bothers to click:

  • Name the buyer in the copy. "For manufacturers doing ₹5 crore+" removes most of the wrong audience before the click.
  • State a minimum. Uncomfortable, and extremely effective.
  • Exclude job-seeker audiences. Interests around recruitment sites and "internship" keep the account far cleaner.
  • Ask for a company domain email. One field, and it removes most of the noise.
  • Avoid the word "free". In B2B it attracts the population least likely to buy.

Long cycles need a content layer

A six-month buying cycle means the person who clicks in January decides in June. Paid alone cannot hold that attention, and remarketing the same ad for five months is how you become the brand people are irritated by.

What works is having something worth returning for: a genuinely useful comparison page, a calculator, a benchmark report. One decent asset outperforms a dozen more ads, because it gives the buyer a reason to come back on their own schedule rather than yours.

Questions people ask

What monthly budget does B2B lead generation in India need?

Enough to produce roughly twenty qualified conversations a month, or you cannot tell signal from noise. What that costs varies wildly by category — work backwards from your close rate and deal size rather than from a benchmark.

Is LinkedIn worth its cost per click?

When one customer is worth several lakh, yes. Below that, Google Search plus well-qualified Meta usually returns more for the same money, because LinkedIn’s premium only pays for itself at high contract values.

How long before I can judge the channel?

One full sales cycle plus a month. Anything shorter measures lead volume, which is precisely the thing you have already decided not to optimise for.

Why are my B2B leads such poor quality?

Usually because the campaign is optimised toward form fills and the form asks for nothing that disqualifies anyone. Add qualifying fields, state the price band or minimum engagement in the ad, and feed sales outcomes back so bidding learns what a real buyer looks like.

Should we run ads to a landing page or use lead form ads?

Landing page, in most B2B cases. Native lead forms produce cheaper leads precisely because they remove the friction that was doing the qualifying for you.

We optimise to qualified pipeline rather than form fills; here is how that works.

Whether LinkedIn is worth its click price comes down to one calculation — we show it here.

Where the deal size is large and the monthly volume small, the usual playbook works against you — high-ticket lead generation covers what changes about forms, targeting and what you optimise toward.
