Running TikTok ads from India starts with an obstacle: TikTok has been blocked here since 2020. Indian brands selling into the US, UK, UAE or Australia still have to deal with it, because for a lot of consumer categories it is where the attention is.
That creates an unusual problem: running ads on a platform your team has no native feel for.
Why that matters more here than elsewhere
On Google, intent does the work and you can reason about keywords without using the product. On TikTok the entire game is whether your video looks like it belongs in the feed. Ads that announce themselves get scrolled past within a second, and the platform's ranking reflects that almost immediately.
You cannot acquire that judgement from a best-practices article. It comes from watching a lot of the feed in the market you are selling to.
A team that has never used TikTok will reliably produce ads that look like Instagram ads, and those reliably fail.
Practical ways to run TikTok ads from India
- Hire the taste rather than guess it. Creators in your target market know the format natively. Brief them on the message and let them make it, rather than handing over a storyboard built from a Meta ad.
- Use Spark Ads. Running a creator's own organic post as an ad keeps the comments, the likes and the handle. It performs better than the same video uploaded clean, because it is what it appears to be. It needs an authorisation code from the creator and a usage agreement that explicitly covers paid amplification — sort that before the shoot, not after the video does well.
- Study the Creative Center. TikTok publishes top-performing ads by market and category. It is the closest thing to scrolling the feed from outside it.
- Ask your buyers. If you already have customers in that market, they can tell you what feels native faster than any tool.
Plan for the production rate, not the campaign
Creative fatigues faster on TikTok than anywhere else. An account running three videos a month will stall. The planning question is not which concept to run but how many you can sustainably produce — and if the answer is very few, the channel is not ready for your budget yet.
The creative volume calculator turns your spend and audience size into a number of concepts per month. It is usually larger than people expect.
Moderate the comments
A TikTok ad's comment section is visible and it converts or kills. Objections raised there go unanswered on most brand accounts. Answering them, and pinning the right reply, is real work with a measurable effect — and it needs someone who can respond in the idiom of that market.
When to not bother
Enterprise B2B, high-ticket considered purchases, anything needing careful qualification or regulated claims. Your buyer may be on TikTok in the evening; they are not there to evaluate vendors. That budget belongs in search.
Where it does fit — consumer products that demonstrate well on video, at an impulse price point — the account side is on our TikTok page, including an honest list of when we tell people not to.
Exporting to several markets at once is where most of the cost is — running ads in multiple countries covers what to localise and what to share.
Questions people ask
Can an Indian company advertise on TikTok?
Yes, where the audience is outside India. The block affects access to the app in India, not an Indian business selling into markets where TikTok operates, though it does make the practical work of building and reviewing creative harder.
How do I research creative I cannot see?
Use the TikTok Creative Center and Ad Library, which are web-based and show what is running in each market, and work with creators or staff based in the target country who can tell you what currently feels native there.
How much creative does TikTok need?
More than Meta, and refreshed faster. Plan around a production rate rather than a campaign: a steady weekly output of native-looking videos, because the format fatigues quickly and polished brand films consistently underperform.
When is TikTok not worth it?
When your buyer is older or business-to-business, when the product needs long explanation before anyone would buy, or when you cannot sustain the creative volume. In those cases the budget does more on other platforms.
